How to Enable HTTPS on Blogger Custom Domain

Google shows "Not Secure" warning on blogs without HTTPS. Visitors leave and SEO drops.

In this tutorial, you'll enable free HTTPS SSL on your Blogger custom domain. Follow along and you'll get the secure lock icon in 10 minutes.

Step 1: Check If Custom Domain Is Connected

HTTPS only works after your custom domain connects to Blogger. No blogspot.com needed.

  1. Go to blogger.com → Left menu → Settings
  2. Scroll to "Publishing" → Check "Custom domain" shows www.yourblog.com
  3. If not connected, do Post #16 first: How to Add Custom Domain to Blogger

Step 2: Turn On HTTPS Availability

Blogger gives free SSL from Google. You just need to enable it.

  1. Settings → Scroll to "HTTPS"
  2. Find "HTTPS availability" → Click dropdown → Select "Yes"
  3. Wait 5-15 minutes → Status changes from "Pending" to "Available"

  2. Find "HTTPS redirect" → Click dropdown → Select "Yes"
  3. Click "Save" at top right

Step 4: HTTPS Settings Explained

SettingWhat It DoesShould You Turn On?
HTTPS availabilityActivates SSL certificateYes, always
HTTPS redirectForces http → httpsYes, for SEO
Mixed contentFixes images loading as httpAuto-fixed by Blogger

Step 5: Fix HTTPS Not Working Errors 2025

  1. Error: "HTTPS availability not available" → Wait 24 hours after connecting custom domain. SSL needs time to generate
  2. Error: "Mixed content warning" → Theme → Edit HTML → Ctrl+F → Search http:// → Change to https://
  3. Lock icon missing: Clear cache: Ctrl + F5 → Check in incognito mode
  4. AdSense not showing: AdSense auto-updates to https. Wait 48 hours or re-add ad code

Bad practice to avoid: Buying SSL from Namecheap. Blogger gives free Google SSL. Paid SSL won't work with Blogger.

Important: After enabling HTTPS, submit new https sitemap to Google Search Console. Old http links will auto-redirect but sitemap needs update.
