Using blogspot.com looks unprofessional. A custom domain like yourblog.com builds trust and helps with SEO.

In this tutorial, you'll connect a custom domain to Blogger for free. Follow along and you'll remove .blogspot from your URL in 30 minutes.

Step 1: Buy a Domain Name

You need a domain from Namecheap, GoDaddy, or any registrar. Costs $8-$15/year.

  1. Go to namecheap.com → Search your blog name
  2. Pick .com → Add to cart → Buy domain
  3. Turn OFF "WhoisGuard" if you want free SSL later

Step 2: Add Custom Domain in Blogger Settings

Blogger gives you 2 CNAME records. You’ll add these to your domain DNS.

  1. Go to blogger.com → Left menu → Settings
  2. Scroll to "Publishing" → Click "Custom domain"
  3. Type: www.yourblog.com → Click "Save"
  4. Error shows → Copy the 2 CNAME records Blogger gives you

Step 3: Setup DNS Records in Namecheap

DNS connects your domain to Blogger servers. Takes 15-60 minutes to work.

  1. Namecheap → Domain List → Manage → Advanced DNS
  2. Delete old CNAME and A records if any
  3. Add new CNAME Record 1: Host = www, Value = ghs.google.com
  4. Add new CNAME Record 2: Host = copy from Blogger, Value = copy from Blogger
  5. Add 4 A Records: Host = @, Values = 216.239.32.21216.239.34.21216.239.36.21216.239.38.21

Step 5: Fix Common Custom Domain Errors 2025

  1. Error: "We have not been able to verify" → Wait 60 minutes. DNS needs time to update
  2. Error: "This domain is already used" → Delete old CNAME records in Namecheap first
  3. Blog not loading: Clear cache: Ctrl + F5 → Check on mobile data
  4. SSL not working: Wait 24 hours after domain connects. HTTPS turns on automatically

Bad practice to avoid: Buying domain from Blogger/Google Domains. It shut down in 2023. Use Namecheap or Cloudflare instead.

Important: After connecting domain, update Google Search Console and AdSense with new URL. Old blogspot.com will redirect automatically.
