How to Move Blogger to WordPress Without Losing SEO - 2026 Guide

You have 150 posts, traffic 10k/month from Post #121-150 SEO. Want WordPress for more control? Migration wrong = 90% traffic lost. Do right = keep 95% SEO.

In Post #153, migrate without SEO loss.

Step 1: Buy Domain + Hosting (Don't Use Free)

  1. Buy custom domain you already have on Blogger? Example yourblog.com (not blogspot.com). If still on blogspot.com - BUY domain first, set on Blogger: Settings → Custom domain → yourblog.com → Wait 3 days traffic stable
  2. Buy hosting: Hostinger / Namehero (cheap $2.99/month). Don't use free WordPress.com - need WordPress.org self-hosted for full control
  3. Install WordPress 1-click from hosting cPanel

Step 2: Export Blogger → Import WordPress

  1. Blogger → Settings → Manage → Back up content → Download (Post #151 file)
  2. WordPress → Tools → Import → Blogger → Install importer → Upload XML → Assign author → Check "Download file attachments" → Submit
  3. After import → Posts → Should see 150 posts. Images auto imported to WordPress media library from Blogger CDN

Step 3: Fix Permalinks to Match Blogger (CRITICAL for SEO)

  1. WordPress → Settings → Permalinks → Custom Structure → Paste:
/%year%/%month%/%postname%.html

Blogger URLs are like /2026/03/how-to-add-dark-mode.html - this matches. If you don't match = all Google links 404 = SEO dead.

  1. Install plugin: "Blogger to WordPress Redirection" by rtCamp → Settings → Fix Blogger URL format → Generate code
  2. Copy code → Blogger → Theme → Edit HTML → Paste just before </head> - this redirects all old Blogger links to new WordPress links with 301

Step 4: Keep SEO - Meta, Labels, TOC

Blogger WordPress Equivalent
Labels Categories + Tags - use plugin "Blogger Label to WP Category"
Post #147 TOC Install "Rank Math SEO" → Enable TOC module - auto imports your TOC
Post #150 Dark Mode Install "WP Dark Mode" free plugin
Post #149 Related Grid Rank Math → Related posts or "Contextual Related Posts" plugin
AdSense Post #134 WordPress → Insert header code same as Blogger

Step 5: 301 Redirects Map - Don't Lose Link Juice

Blogger: yourblog.blogspot.com/2026/03/post-121.html
WordPress: yourblog.com/2026/03/post-121.html
If same custom domain: Auto redirect via plugin above = 95% juice kept.

If moving blogspot.com → yourblog.com:
1. Blogger → Settings → Custom domain → Remove? No - keep Blogger with redirect code
2. Search Console → Add new domain property yourblog.com → Submit sitemap yourblog.com/sitemap.xml
3. Search Console old → Settings → Change of address → Point to new domain

Step 6: After Migration Checklist (7 Days)

  1. Day 1: Check WordPress site all 150 posts images loading?
  2. Day 2: Search Console → Coverage → Any 404? Fix with Redirection plugin → Add manual 301
  3. Day 3: Keep Blogger blog LIVE with redirect code - don't delete for 6 months minimum (Google needs)
  4. Day 7: Analytics - traffic same? Should be 80% day 1, 95% day 7, 100%+ day 30 (WordPress faster)
  5. AdSense: Add new domain in AdSense → Sites → Add site → Verify → Ads will show 24h after approval

Warning: Don't delete Blogger blog. Ever. Keep as redirect forever - costs $0. If delete, backlinks lost.
